Attica Train Derailment
Location: Attica, NY
TREC was contracted to perform a soil excavation and slope stabilization project related to a former train derailment oil spill. TREC removed both impacted soils and unstable backfill materials to remediate and stabilize the site and existing embankment. A permanent drainage system was installed to mitigate the impacts of both surface and groundwater flows and increase the embankment stability. Impacted soils were transported and disposed of at a Subtitle D landfill. Surge stone, railroad ballast stone, and geotechnical fabrics were utilized to backfill and stabilize the site upon removal of impacted soils.
